Dr. Steve and Megan Scheibner

steve-scheibner Upon college graduation, Steve joined the U.S. Navy and trained as a pilot. He married his col­lege sweetheart Megan, and they began a life together that has included eight children and 15 moves. Steve was deployed three times in four years flying the P3 Orion. Steve left active duty in 1991 and was hired by American Airlines. He now flies the Boeing 757 and 767 out of Boston and is active in the Navy Reserve. During the late 90s, Steve started his graduate education at Calvary Bap­tist Theological Seminary and earned a M.A. in Theo­logical Studies and a M.A. in Christian Ministries in 2007. Steve earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. His dissertation topic was the role of parents in the character develop­ment of children. In 2000, the family moved to Maine where Steve founded Cornerstone Baptist Church. Steve was asked to design and teach a course in Navy Core Values. More than 10,000 service members have attended this seminar. Steve and Megan have devel­oped a parenting course Parenting Matters; The Nine Practices of The Proactive Parent. Steve adapted and taught his Navy Core Values to the students and faculty of Clearwater Christian College. He has written several books and studies. Steve and Megan enjoy opening their home to young people and you will usually find a crowd at the Scheibner’s house. In his spare time, he sleeps, watches the Red Sox, and drives his children to sports practice, all while attending weekly meetings of Overachiever’s Anonymous. He retired as Senior Pastor to become the President of Characterhealth Corporation; a non-profit conference ministry aimed at equipping parents to train the next generation of character-healthy leaders.

megan-scheibnerMegan was adopted as a newborn and grew up in Penn. She earned a B.A. in Speech Communications from West Chester University. She teaches and speaks at conferences and women’s ministry func­tions, as well as in individual and couples counseling. Megan homeschooled eight beautiful children, four boys and four girls. She has been married for 29 years to her college sweetheart, Steve. Together they have co-authored Parenting Matters, The Nine Practices of the Pro-Active Parent. She is also the author of a series of discipleship books for mothers and several devotional Bible studies. She authored, In My Seat,” the story of Steve’s 9/11 experience, that has captivated mil­lions on YouTube. Her newest book, An A-Z Guide For Character-Healthy Homeschooling provides encourage­ment and practical tips gained through her 20 plus years of homeschooling experience. Megan and her husband Steve share a strong desire to equip today’s parents to raise the next generation of character healthy leaders. In her spare time, she loves to run and play tennis. Megan enjoys writing, cooking, feeding teenagers, reading, and everything pertaining to the Boston Red Sox.

Joyce Blankenship

HSLDA, Special Needs Consultant

joyce-blankenshipJoyce earned her bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies at California State University Long Beach and her elementary teaching credential at California State University Chico. She has worked in the field of educa­tion for the past 30 years, as an educational therapist, tutor, enrichment class teacher, and home educator. She has graduated four of her five children and continues to homeschool her youngest daughter. Two of her children are college graduates, while two are currently in college. Having homeschooled a struggling learner, Joyce finds great enjoyment in encouraging parents in their home­schooling journey. She joined HSLDA’s special needs consultants team in spring of 2013.

Jake MacAulay

Institute of the Constitution

Jake is a homeschooling father of four anjake-macaulayd serves as the CEO of the Institute on the Constitution (IOTC), an educational outreach and curriculum that presents the founders’ biblical view of law and government. IOTC’s US Constitu­tion course, accommodates the required High School Civics and US Government Credit and provides students a full under­stand of the Biblical principles on which America’s founding documents are based. The former co-host of the syndi­cated talk show, The Sons of Liberty, he is an ordained minister and has spoken to audiences nationwide, and has established the American Club, a constitutional study group in private, co-op, and public schools. Jake has been seen on Yahoo News, Fox News, The Blaze, AP, CBS, NBC, The Weekly Standard and more.
