HSLDA

Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)

HSLDA is a nonprofit advocacy organization established to defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the education of their children and to protect family freedoms. Through annual memberships, HSLDA is tens of thousands of families united in service together, providing a strong voice when and where needed. Visit HSLDA's web site to see the scope of HSLDA's advocacy: www.HSLDA.org.

The NCHEA has a strong working relationship with HSLDA and encourages all homeschooling families to join HSLDA. HSLDA membership is like fire insurance; you hope you never have to use it but are extremely grateful for the insurance when you have a need for it. Like fire insurance premiums, your premium dollars will benefit others in their time of loss and the premiums of others will benefit you in your time of loss.

Families with special needs children who are withdrawing their child from a public school are strongly encouraged to join HSLDA before withdrawing their child, because special needs students represent a significant source of state and/or federal subsidy dollars to the public schools. Accordingly, public school(s)/officials may take steps to prevent it and/or attempt to intimidate parents from removing their child. Also, families that have had conflicts with school officials should seriously consider joining HSLDA prior to withdrawing their child.

NCHEA members are eligible to join HSLDA or renew their membership in HSLDA at a $20 discount off the annual $115 HSLDA membership fee. Membership in HSLDA is solely at the discretion of HSLDA. Please note that once a homeschooling family has experienced or is involved in an unfavorable or an adversarial contact by officials, HSLDA may not accept the family's membership application.

A family applying for membership in HSLDA must indicate on HSLDA's application that it is a member of the NCHEA Group Discount Program by placing the Code #293207 on HSLDA's application.)

A HSLDA application can be accessed at: www.HSLDA.org.
